Frequently Asked Questions about Palliative Care

How Can I Access Respite Care in Aged Care?
To access respite care, you’ll first need to complete an eligibility check and assessment through My Aged Care. This process helps determine the level of support you require and ensures you receive the appropriate services. Once approved, respite care may be provided through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme or as part of your Home Care Package. You’ll be given a respite care classification, which outlines the level of care you need. Eligible individuals can receive up to 63 days of subsidised respite care each year. In some cases, this can be extended in additional 21-day periods, subject to approval by an aged care assessor. At Omara, our team can help guide you through the process and support you in accessing the care that best suits your needs.

The cost of respite care includes a basic daily fee, which is set by the government at 85% of the single basic Age Pension. This fee is reviewed and updated twice a year, on 20 March and 20 September.
In addition, a booking fee may be required to secure your place at Omara.

We understand that navigating fees can be complex, and our team is here to help. We’re happy to talk you through the costs and available respite care options—whether you choose a short stay with Omara or elsewhere.
